The Hog started as a one-off experiment: a unique standalone synth packed with sound, soul and a love for simplicity. Now, we're chopping it up into modules to see what it's capable of fully unleashed.
Introducing Hog Modular—a fully open-source, DIY-friendly modular synth project. You’ll be able to build the modules as we release them, patch them into your setup, and watch the system grow.
We'll release one module at a time, in the order a full synth takes shape. Follow along to see how this thing comes alive piece by piece.
We’re making it way easier to build than the original Hog. Designed with DIY builders in mind and solid enough to become a real product someday.
Once all the pieces are out, there’ll be a full kit with a few extra features that bring the OG Hog spirit to its new form.
We’re sharing the whole process — ideas, experiments, mistakes, and all — on the blog. Each module will be open-source and available as soon as it’s ready.
The beating heart of any synth — the bit that actually makes the sound. The Hog Moduleur oscillator has three basic waveforms (triangle, saw and square with pulse width modulation) plus you can choose to output a sub or a noise as an extra sound source. From here, everything else is shaping and mangling sound into something magical or horrible.
The mixer is where all sounds meet up. This mixer has 3 regular inputs and a special 4th one which can be used as the control signal for a fully analog sidechain compressor. If you know, you know — instant punping house shite baby!
An extremely drippy diode filter that doesn't lose the low end. As an extra compared to the Hog, it has high and low pass options and two control voltage inputs with attenuverters.
A simple ADSR and VCA combined in a single module. Coming soon...
